Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh highlighted the significant role of statistics in informed policy-making during the 17th Statistics Day celebration held in the national capital. The Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation, in his address, emphasized the importance of statistics as evidence in shaping policies and acknowledged the Ministry’s efforts in enhancing India’s statistical capability.

The annual Statistics Day provides a platform to acknowledge and appreciate the pivotal role that statistics play in guiding policy decisions. Minister Singh stressed the need for evidence-based policy-making, where statistics serve as a vital tool to inform and support decisions that impact the nation and its citizens.

In his speech, Minister Singh praised the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) for its consistent efforts in strengthening India’s statistical capability. The MoSPI has been instrumental in collecting, analyzing, and disseminating accurate statistical data, which serves as the foundation for evidence-based policy formulation.

Statistics serve as a crucial pillar in understanding the economic, social, and demographic dynamics of a country. They provide policymakers with insights into various sectors, including healthcare, education, employment, and poverty, enabling them to devise effective strategies to address existing challenges and meet the needs of the population.

The availability of reliable and comprehensive statistical data is essential for formulating policies that can drive inclusive and sustainable development. Minister Singh highlighted that accurate statistics empower policymakers with the necessary information to design targeted interventions, allocate resources efficiently, and evaluate the impact of implemented policies.

The Minister also underlined the role of technology in modernizing statistical systems. He emphasized the need for embracing advanced data collection techniques, data integration, and data analytics to enhance the quality and timeliness of statistical information. By leveraging technology, the Ministry can ensure that policymakers have access to real-time and accurate data, enabling them to make well-informed decisions promptly.

Furthermore, Minister Singh highlighted the importance of capacity building in the field of statistics. The Ministry has been actively involved in training statisticians and researchers to enhance their skills and expertise in data analysis and interpretation. By equipping professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge, the Ministry aims to strengthen the statistical workforce of India and ensure the availability of qualified experts in the field.

The Minister expressed his gratitude towards statisticians, researchers, and data collectors who contribute to the vast statistical ecosystem of India. Their dedication and meticulous efforts in collecting and analyzing data are invaluable in shaping evidence-based policies that address the needs of the diverse population.

Minister Rao Inderjit Singh reiterated the significance of statistics in policy-making and recognized the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation’s role in bolstering India’s statistical capability. By harnessing accurate and timely statistical information, policymakers can make informed decisions that drive sustainable development and improve the lives of the citizens.
