The much-awaited second part of Mani Ratnam’s “Ponniyin Selvan” has grossed Rs 100 crore at the global box office within just a few days of its release. The film, which hit screens on Friday, is a historical epic that features an ensemble cast of top actors from the Indian film industry. It is based on the Tamil novel “Ponniyin Selvan” written by Kalki Krishnamurthy and is set in the Chola dynasty.

The film has been produced by Ratnam’s production house, Madras Talkies, and was released in Tamil along with dubbed versions in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam. The movie has received an overwhelming response from audiences and critics alike, who have praised the film for its grandeur, performances, and storytelling.

On Sunday, Madras Talkies shared the box office numbers of “Ponniyin Selvan II” on its official Twitter page, announcing that the movie has earned Rs 100 crore at the global box office. The film has broken several records and has become the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.

The first part of “Ponniyin Selvan” was released in 2021 and was also a commercial success. The movie was praised for its production design, music, and performances. The second part of the film takes the story forward and delves deeper into the characters and their motivations.

“Ponniyin Selvan II” features an ensemble cast that includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and several other prominent actors. The movie has been directed by Mani Ratnam, who is known for his unique storytelling style and his ability to bring out the best performances from his actors.

The success of “Ponniyin Selvan II” is a testament to the audience’s appetite for good storytelling and quality filmmaking. The film has shown that a movie that is made with passion, dedication, and a strong vision can transcend language barriers and appeal to audiences across the globe.

The film industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, with several movies being postponed or released directly on OTT platforms. However, “Ponniyin Selvan II” has shown that there is still a demand for big-budget films that offer a cinematic experience that cannot be replicated on a small screen.
