Extreme Rainfall Predicted Across India: IMD Issues Alerts

In a recent update, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across various regions of India over the coming days. The alert includes several states in North, Central, East, and Northeast India, with the possibility of widespread weather disruptions.

Alerts in northern parts

Himachal Pradesh and parts of Northern India are bracing for heavy rainfall, with the IMD issuing a red alert for Himachal Pradesh. The state is expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly in districts such as Kangra, Chamba, Hamirpur, and others. Due to the anticipated heavy rains, educational institutions in Shimla district will remain closed on the 23rd and 24th of August.

Uttarakhand and northern parts of Uttar Pradesh are also on alert as isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted between the 22nd and 25th of August. Additionally, an isolated extremely heavy rainfall event is likely in Uttarakhand on the 23rd and 24th of August.

Alerts in East India:

In the eastern part of the country, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, and other states are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall during the specified period. The IMD warns of isolated extremely heavy rainfall in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim on the 22nd and 23rd of August and over Bihar on the 23rd and 24th of August.

Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and other northeastern states are also slated for isolated heavy rainfall activity in the upcoming days, as per IMD predictions.

Central India:

Central India, including regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and others, can expect light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over the next two days. Thunderstorms and lightning are also anticipated during this period.

Conclusion 

The IMD’s forecast reflects the possibility of extreme weather conditions, with potential impacts on daily life, transportation, and infrastructure. Residents and authorities are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during these heavy rainfall events.
