Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the critical importance of the Indo-Pacific region as a driving force behind global trade, innovation, and development. His remarks were made during the Quad summit in Hiroshima, where he was joined by US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

In his opening statements, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the Indo-Pacific region serves as an “engine” for global progress, with its success and security holding immense significance for the entire world. The Quad, comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, has emerged as a crucial platform dedicated to ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in this dynamic region. Modi reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to advancing a constructive agenda based on democratic principles.

The Indo-Pacific region has witnessed substantial economic growth and transformation, becoming a hub for international trade and innovation. As a result, the region has attracted considerable attention from nations around the globe. Prime Minister Modi’s acknowledgment of the Indo-Pacific’s vital role reinforces the need for collaborative efforts to harness its potential and address common challenges.

The Quad, formed in 2007 as an informal grouping, has gained prominence in recent years as a platform for strategic dialogue and cooperation. The four nations share a commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region. Their collective efforts aim to promote a stable and secure environment that fosters economic growth and upholds the principles of democracy.

During the summit, Prime Minister Modi commended the progress made by the Quad coalition in advancing shared objectives. The collaboration encompasses various sectors, including maritime security, counterterrorism, cybersecurity, climate change, and disaster response. By leveraging their respective strengths, the Quad nations have successfully tackled regional challenges and created opportunities for sustained development.

Modi also underscored the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations, a fundamental principle that underpins the Quad’s approach. He emphasized the need for a peaceful, rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific, urging all stakeholders to engage in responsible and inclusive behavior.

The Quad summit in Hiroshima served as an opportunity for the leaders to exchange views on regional and global issues. Prime Minister Modi expressed his appreciation for the strong bilateral relationships shared by the Quad countries and their commitment to enhancing multilateral cooperation. He emphasized the value of such partnerships in addressing evolving challenges, including the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As the global community navigates a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, the Indo-Pacific region remains a critical locus of economic and strategic interest. Prime Minister Modi’s remarks at the Quad summit reflect the shared vision of the Quad nations in promoting a secure, prosperous, and rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific. By strengthening collaboration, leveraging innovation, and upholding democratic principles, the Quad aims to shape a future where the region continues to thrive and contribute to global progress.
