Sarma Signals Strong Momentum for NDA

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday expressed optimism about the NDA’s prospects in the upcoming Assembly elections. According to him, voter enthusiasm has increased significantly, especially among women and young voters.

Moreover, he noted that public meetings are witnessing higher participation from women, while rallies are attracting large numbers of youth. Therefore, he believes these groups will play a decisive role in shaping the election outcome.

Women and Gen Z Drive Campaign Energy

Sarma highlighted that the election campaign is gaining momentum due to active involvement from Gen Z and women voters. He stated that both groups are engaging strongly with the NDA’s outreach programmes.

As a result, the BJP-led alliance expects a favourable outcome. He also described the ongoing election as one driven by new-age voters who prioritise development and governance.

Key Constituencies Show Positive Trends

During his campaign, Sarma visited Dhakuakhana and Lakhimpur, which were previously closely contested seats. However, he now describes them as “A+ seats” for the alliance.

He attributed this shift to welfare schemes and development initiatives introduced under Narendra Modi. Consequently, he expects a one-sided voting pattern in favour of the BJP-AGP-BPF alliance.

Focus on Governance and Welfare

The NDA campaign continues to focus on governance, welfare schemes, and targeted outreach. In particular, programmes aimed at women and youth have received attention during the campaign.

Additionally, Sarma announced that the alliance will soon release a vision document outlining its development agenda. This document is expected to further strengthen voter confidence.

Response to Opposition

When asked about opposition leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi, Sarma downplayed their impact. He stated that discussing them would only provide unnecessary publicity.

Instead, he emphasised that the NDA remains focused on its agenda and voter outreach efforts.

No Fixed Targets, Focus on Public Mandate

Sarma avoided setting a specific seat target for the elections. Instead, he stated that electoral outcomes depend on the people’s decision.

He compared politics with cricket, noting that unlike sports, elections do not follow fixed targets. Therefore, the final result will reflect public sentiment.

Election Schedule Finalised

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam will take place on April 9, 2026. Subsequently, the counting of votes and declaration of results will occur on May 4, 2026.

Meanwhile, Sarma will contest the election from his Jalukbari constituency.

Why Assam Matters

Assam is a key political and economic hub in Northeast India. Therefore, election outcomes here significantly influence regional politics and development strategies across the region.
