A Guwahati nightclub manager and an event manager have been arrested after a woman was allegedly assaulted and partially stripped by bouncers in the city’s Khanapara area. Police registered a suo motu case after a purported video of the incident surfaced online.
The incident reportedly took place between 1.30am and 2am on Friday following an altercation at the nightclub. Police are examining CCTV footage, the video circulating online and other evidence to establish what happened.
Guwahati nightclub arrests follow police investigation
Guwahati Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta confirmed that the nightclub manager and an event manager were arrested in connection with the case. He said the two were questioned before police formally arrested them.
The arrests came after police began investigating the alleged assault. The case was registered on Friday night after the purported footage drew attention on social media.
However, police have not yet established the complete sequence of events. The identity of the woman also remains unknown, and she has not approached the police so far.
Guwahati nightclub incident caught on video
A purported video has circulated widely on social media following the incident. It appears to show a woman lying on the floor in a parking area while other people are nearby.
Another part of the footage appears to show a woman intervening and trying to help her. Police are verifying the authenticity and details of the video as part of the investigation.
Reports said the woman was allegedly assaulted inside the establishment before being taken down from the fourth floor. She was reportedly partially stripped during the alleged assault.
The exact circumstances remain under investigation. Therefore, the footage alone does not establish the full sequence of events or the role of each person seen in it.
What led to the alleged assault
A security guard at the building gave police and media reports an account of the events before the alleged assault. According to the guard, the woman had allegedly struck a female bouncer with a beer bottle inside the club.
The guard alleged that the incident angered other bouncers, who then took the woman downstairs. The woman was allegedly assaulted after being brought towards the parking area.
However, these details remain allegations and have not been independently established by police. Investigators are expected to examine CCTV footage and question people connected with the incident.
Police are also looking into what happened inside the nightclub before the woman was taken downstairs.
Guwahati nightclub management under investigation
The arrests have placed attention on the role of the establishment’s management and event organisers. Police have so far arrested the manager and event manager while continuing to investigate the alleged actions of the bouncers.
Earlier reports said the nightclub was closed when media personnel reached the location. Its gate was reportedly locked and its lights were switched off. No representative of the establishment came forward to respond to the allegations at that time.
Meanwhile, Guwahati East Deputy Commissioner of Police Tabu Ram Pegu said investigators had collected CCTV footage and other information. Police are also checking the details shown in the purported video.
Police probe continues into Guwahati nightclub case
The investigation will focus on establishing what happened before, during and after the alleged assault. Police will also determine the involvement of people present at the venue and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s removal from the premises.
The arrests do not establish guilt, and the allegations against those involved remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.
For now, police are continuing to gather evidence and verify accounts from witnesses. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation into the Guwahati nightclub incident.
