Brutal Murder Shocks Kangpokpi

A shocking murder has rattled residents of Kangpokpi district in Manipur. Unknown assailants allegedly killed 63-year-old Pushpa Devi inside her residence in Charhajare on the night of May 3.

Locals discovered the crime the next morning when they visited her home and found her lying in a pool of blood. As news spread, panic and concern quickly grew across the locality.

Robbery Suspected as Valuables Missing

Investigators suspect robbery as a possible motive behind the murder. Reports confirm that gold jewellery, cash, and other valuables were missing from the house. Therefore, police believe the attackers may have targeted the victim for theft.

Sources indicate that the assailants likely entered the house late at night. They then attacked the woman and fled with stolen items, leaving behind a gruesome scene.

Victim Found with Severe Injuries

Pushpa Devi sustained serious head injuries, reportedly caused by a blunt object. These injuries suggest a violent struggle and deliberate attack. Moreover, officials noted that she lived with her mentally challenged younger brother, which may have increased her vulnerability.

Since she had no immediate dependants, the incident has raised concerns about the safety of elderly individuals living alone.

Police Investigation Underway

Police from Gamnom Sapermeina Police Station responded promptly after receiving information. They conducted an inquest and later sent the body to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem.

Authorities carried out the autopsy on Monday in the presence of a magistrate and recorded the entire process on video. After completion, officials handed over the body to the family for last rites.

Meanwhile, police have launched a full investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.

Public Outrage and Demand for Justice

The Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union strongly condemned the killing and described it as an inhuman act. Furthermore, the organisation demanded immediate action against the perpetrators.

It also raised concerns about the safety of elderly citizens, especially those living alone. As a result, the union urged authorities to strengthen security measures across vulnerable communities in the state.
