Assam Rifles rescued 15 villagers after violence broke out along the Indo-Myanmar border in Kamjong district during the early hours of May 7.

Officials said heavy firing and explosions occurred near Z Choro and opposite Namlee. As tension escalated in the region, Assam Rifles troops immediately moved into the affected area to protect civilians.

Despite difficult terrain and security risks, the troops carried out a rescue operation and safely evacuated villagers from the violence-hit area. The rescued group included women and children.

During the operation, rescue teams also secured 10 houses affected by the violence. Subsequently, the troops shifted the rescued civilians to the Aloyo Assam Rifles camp, where they received humanitarian assistance.

Meanwhile, a Myanmarese woman from Namlee received immediate first aid from the troops. Later, officials arranged medical evacuation support to ensure proper treatment.

In addition, Assam Rifles launched rapid area sanitisation operations to restore stability in the border region. Security personnel also conducted search operations in nearby locations.

During the searches, the troops apprehended one armed cadre. Furthermore, they recovered an AK-47 rifle along with a magazine and ammunition from the individual.

Later, officials handed over the arrested person and the seized weapons to local police authorities for further investigation.

Although tension continued in some parts of the district, Assam Rifles intensified domination patrols in other sensitive areas of Kamjong district. Officials said the increased security presence aimed to maintain peace and reassure residents living near the border.

Officials further stated that the operation once again demonstrated the force’s commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining stability along the sensitive Indo-Myanmar border.
