Main Developments

The Manipur Legislative Assembly passed the Manipur Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2026 on Wednesday. The House cleared the bill during the evening sitting on the final day of its 7th Session.

Several members actively took part in the discussion. These included Okram Ibobi Singh, K. Meghachandra Singh, K. Ranjit Singh, Th. Lokeshwar Singh, and Surjakumar Okram. After detailed deliberations, the House passed the bill unanimously.

Relief Measures for Hailstorm Victims

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh addressed concerns related to recent hailstorm damage. He directed all Deputy Commissioners to provide immediate assistance to affected residents.

Furthermore, he clarified that authorities will use available funds for relief. The government will later reimburse these expenditures. As a result, affected families can expect quicker support.

Healthcare Updates and Reforms

The Chief Minister also highlighted progress in healthcare schemes. He stated that over seven lakh people have received treatment under the Chief Minister’s Health for All Scheme (CMHT) and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana.

However, he acknowledged gaps in implementation. He noted that similar issues exist in other states as well. Therefore, the government plans to introduce corrective measures soon.

In addition, the Health Department cancelled around 110 non-genuine applications. Authorities identified these cases during verification checks.

Probe into Irregularities

To strengthen transparency, the government will form an administrative committee. This panel will investigate suspected fake claims and fraudulent withdrawals under health schemes.

The committee must submit its report within one month. Moreover, the Chief Secretary will hold a meeting with empanelled private hospitals within a week. This step aims to enforce proper guidelines and prevent misuse.

Development Initiatives

During the session, the Chief Minister announced new development programmes. Seven projects under the Water Resources Department have been allocated to Thoubal district.

Additionally, he clarified that funds meant for women’s self-help groups are not linked to elections. Instead, the government will distribute these funds to support economically weaker sections.

Session Conclusion

After passing the bill, the House adjourned the 7th Session of the 12th Assembly sine die. The session concluded with key policy decisions and administrative announcements.

Location Context

Manipur plays a crucial role in Northeast India’s governance and development. Therefore, decisions taken in the Assembly directly impact regional administration and public welfare.
