Call for Peace and Reflection

Thadou Inpi Manipur has called on all Thadou churches to observe May 3 as Manipur Peace Day. The organisation urged communities to hold prayer vigils and moments of reflection.

Furthermore, TIM emphasized that the day should promote healing and unity. It encouraged people to reaffirm their commitment to peaceful coexistence across ethnic groups.

Opposition to ‘Separation Day’ Narrative

At the same time, TIM strongly opposed efforts by certain groups to label May 3 as “Separation Day.” The organisation stated that such narratives could deepen divisions.

Instead, it stressed that unity and mutual respect must remain central values. Therefore, it urged communities to reject divisive messaging and focus on reconciliation.

Continued Observance Since 2024

Since 2024, TIM, along with the Thadou Students’ Association, has observed the day as Manipur Peace Day. These observances draw inspiration from global events like Hiroshima remembrance.

Such commemorations highlight resilience, shared humanity, and the importance of peace. As a result, TIM aims to foster a similar spirit in Manipur.

Churches Urged to Lead Initiatives

TIM has asked Thadou churches to organise prayer services at convenient times. It encouraged collective participation from all community members.

Additionally, the organisation said that these gatherings should focus on harmony and respect. This approach, it noted, can help rebuild trust among communities.

Identity Assertion in Declaration

In its statement, TIM also referred to the 2024 Thadou Convention Declaration. The declaration asserted that Thadou is a distinct ethnic group.

Moreover, it clarified that Thadou is not part of the Kuki community. TIM added that any misrepresentation of this identity does not reflect Thadou interests.

Location Context

Manipur, located in Northeast India, has experienced ethnic tensions in recent years. Therefore, initiatives promoting peace and unity play a crucial role in stabilising the region and strengthening social harmony.
