Performance Scheduled at National School of Drama
The group will stage its acclaimed Shumang Leela production “Mutlaroidaba Machu” on February 10 at the National School of Drama (NSD), Mandi House. Celebrated playwright Manaobi MM wrote the play, which has earned recognition for its strong narrative and social commentary.
The performance forms part of the festival’s curated programme that showcases diverse theatrical traditions and original storytelling.
Story Explores Social Change and Gender Issues
“Mutlaroidaba Machu” traces the journey of two sisters, Ayeengbi and Thabatombi, as they navigate social and personal struggles while moving from rural Manipur to urban Imphal. Through their experiences, the play explores themes of migration, identity, and survival in a changing society.
In addition, the narrative addresses pressing social issues such as drug and substance abuse, depicted through the character Ningthemba. The production also sheds light on deep-rooted misogyny, challenging traditional attitudes and gender discrimination.
By blending strong storytelling with social realism, the play reflects the evolving concerns of Manipuri society.
