Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a 10-bedded Integrated AYUSH Hospital at Merengipara in South West Garo Hills. The new facility will strengthen access to alternative and preventive healthcare in this border region.

The hospital will offer treatments based on Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and other traditional systems of medicine. These services will focus on lifestyle-related health issues. As a result, residents of Merengipara and nearby areas will no longer need to travel long distances for such care.

Focus on Holistic and Preventive Treatment

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sangma said the government remains committed to expanding healthcare services in remote and underserved areas. He stated that the Integrated AYUSH Hospital would promote holistic healing while complementing existing medical facilities.

Moreover, the project reflects the state’s effort to revive and institutionalize traditional systems of medicine. The hospital is expected to play a key role in preventive healthcare and wellness promotion across South West Garo Hills.

Improved Road Connectivity and Bypass Plan

Alongside healthcare, the Chief Minister highlighted progress in road infrastructure in the border district. He pointed out that improved connectivity has already eased movement in the area.

Additionally, Sangma announced plans to construct an alternative bypass road at Merengipara. This new route will help reduce congestion and ensure smoother transportation of goods and people. Better roads, he noted, remain essential for balanced regional development.

Expansion of Higher Education Facilities

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also spoke about developments in the education sector. He confirmed that a Science and Commerce College has started functioning at Mahendraganj. This initiative has opened new avenues for higher education for students in the region.

Furthermore, the state government continues to invest in infrastructure upgrades for schools and colleges. These efforts aim to improve learning conditions and raise overall education standards.

Hili–Mahendraganj Road to Drive Growth

Sangma emphasized the importance of the Hili–Mahendraganj Road project. Once completed, the road will significantly enhance inter-regional connectivity. It will also encourage trade, attract investments, and support industrial growth.

Consequently, the project is expected to generate employment opportunities and strengthen the local economy. Together with healthcare and education initiatives, it underlines the government’s vision for inclusive development.
