Visitor Numbers Show Massive Growth

According to Mizoram Tourism Department data, the state welcomed approximately 524,784 tourists in 2024–2025, compared to 219,114 the previous year. Notably, domestic tourists comprised 98.87% of visitors. This strong domestic demand underlines the increasing popularity of Mizoram’s cultural and natural attractions. Furthermore, international tourism interest is rising steadily, as travelers look for new, offbeat experiences in India’s Northeast.

Improved Connectivity Drives Growth

Enhanced connectivity has played a crucial role in boosting Mizoram tourism growth 2025. The inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang railway line has connected Mizoram to the national railway network for the first time. Consequently, the Rajdhani Express achieved 155% passenger occupancy in its debut week, demonstrating strong demand and traveler enthusiasm. This improved accessibility encourages both domestic and international tourists to explore the state more easily.

Commitment to Sustainable Tourism

The Mizoram government has actively promoted eco-friendly tourism to support Mizoram tourism growth 2025. At the Mizoram Travel Fest 2025, the Tourism and Environment, Forest & Climate Change departments collaborated to develop responsible tourism programs. These initiatives aim to protect the state’s natural resources while enhancing visitor experiences. Furthermore, community-based tourism projects allow locals to benefit directly from increased tourism, making growth both sustainable and inclusive.

Streamlining Travel for International Tourists

Chief Minister Lalduhoma has advocated for simplified processes for Restricted Area Permits (RAP) and Protected Area Permits (PAP) to attract international travelers. By reducing bureaucratic hurdles, Mizoram hopes to further enhance its appeal as a must-visit destination. Tourists can then enjoy seamless entry while experiencing the state’s scenic beauty and cultural heritage.

Top Attractions Fueling Growth

Several key attractions have contributed to Mizoram tourism growth 2025:

  • Vantawng Falls: One of India’s tallest waterfalls, offering stunning views and photo opportunities.
  • Thenzawl Golf Course: A scenic 18-hole golf course attracting sports enthusiasts and nature lovers.
  • Champhai District: Known for its cultural heritage and proximity to Myanmar.
  • Sairang Railway Station: A modern transit hub facilitating easy access for travelers from across India.

Moreover, local festivals and handicraft markets provide immersive experiences, adding depth to tourist visits.
