Detailed News Report

The Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Natural Fuel India, Chümoukedima, and Sathwaro Farming Group, Gujarat, to strengthen the horticulture sector in the state.

Officials signed the agreement at the office chamber of the Commissioner and Secretary of the Horticulture Department in Kohima.

Under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the partners will work together to develop sustainable horticulture value chains across Nagaland.

The project will mainly focus on creating pineapple cultivation clusters in different parts of the state. In addition, the initiative will support the production and marketing of high-value horticultural crops such as kiwi, litchi, rambutan, and spices.

Officials stated that the partnership also includes plans to establish solar dehydration units and improve cold chain infrastructure. These facilities will help farmers preserve produce for longer periods and reduce post-harvest losses.

Moreover, the project aims to strengthen market linkages for both domestic and export markets. Authorities believe better market access will help farmers secure improved prices for their products.

The government expects the initiative to encourage greater farmer participation in commercial horticulture activities. At the same time, the project seeks to create sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

Furthermore, the PPP model will allow private sector expertise and investment to support agricultural development in Nagaland.

Officials said improved storage, processing, and transportation systems could significantly increase the value of horticultural products grown in the state.

The initiative also aligns with the government’s broader efforts to promote modern farming practices and boost the agricultural economy in Northeast India.
