Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav will serve as the new Governor of Nagaland. President Droupadi Murmu approved his appointment as part of a large reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors across several states and Union Territories.
The decision forms part of a broader administrative realignment aimed at strengthening governance and coordination across the country.

Yadav Thanks President and Prime Minister
After the announcement, Nand Kishore Yadav thanked President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for entrusting him with the responsibility.
He said he will work with dedication and follow constitutional values while serving the people of Nagaland.
“I thank the President of India and the Prime Minister for giving me this responsibility. I will work for the development of Nagaland within the framework of the Constitution,” Yadav said on Friday.
Moreover, he emphasised that his priority will remain the welfare and progress of the state.
Veteran Leader with Long Political Experience
Nand Kishore Yadav brings decades of political experience from Bihar. Over the years, he built a strong presence in state politics and held several key positions.
He represented the Patna Sahib constituency in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. In addition, he served as Speaker of the Assembly from 2024 to 2025.
Earlier, Yadav managed important portfolios such as Road Construction and Health in the Bihar government. Furthermore, he served as Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.
Because of this long legislative and administrative experience, the Centre has entrusted him with the constitutional role in Nagaland.
Centre Announces Several New Appointments
Alongside Yadav’s appointment, the President announced several other changes in Raj Bhavans across the country.
Retired Army officer Syed Ata Hasnain will now serve as Governor of Bihar.
Meanwhile, R. N. Ravi will move from Tamil Nadu to become Governor of West Bengal. He replaces C. V. Ananda Bose, who stepped down from the position.
In addition, Vinai Kumar Saxena will take charge as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu will serve as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Transfers and Additional Responsibilities
The reshuffle also includes several transfers among Governors.
Shiv Pratap Shukla will move from Himachal Pradesh to serve as Governor of Telangana.
At the same time, Jishnu Dev Varma will take charge as Governor of Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, outgoing Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta will now serve as Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
Additionally, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who currently serves as Governor of Kerala, will hold additional charge as Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Focus on Strengthening Governance
Overall, the latest changes reflect a broad administrative reshuffle aimed at improving governance and coordination between the Centre and states.
