Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a visit to Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Australia from May 19 to May 24. The purpose of his visit is to attend the G7 summit, the 3rd Summit of the Forum for India–Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC III Summit), and the Quad Summit.

The visit will commence with PM Modi’s presence at the International Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima, Japan. He has been invited by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to participate in discussions on various topics including peace, stability, prosperity, sustainable planet, food security, energy security, gender equality, climate change, infrastructure, and development cooperation. Additionally, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with other leaders attending the summit.

Following his time in Japan, PM Modi will travel to Papua New Guinea, where he will co-host the 3rd Summit of the Forum for India–Pacific Islands Cooperation with Prime Minister James Marape. This visit marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Papua New Guinea. During his stay, PM Modi will engage in bilateral discussions with Governor-General Bob Dadae and PM Marape.

The Forum for India–Pacific Islands Cooperation involves India and 14 Pacific Island Countries, aiming to strengthen ties and cooperation. Participating countries include Fiji, Tonga, Kiribati, Samoa, Vanuatu, Niue, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Cook Islands, Palau, Nauru, and Solomon Islands.

From May 22 to 24, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Sydney, Australia, to participate in the Quad Leaders’ Summit. This summit will be attended by US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The leaders will discuss developments in the Indo-Pacific region and work towards their shared vision of a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

During his time in Australia, PM Modi will engage in bilateral talks with PM Albanese, meet with Australian CEOs and business leaders, and address the Indian diaspora at a community event in Sydney on May 23. The visit provides an opportunity for strengthening cooperation and fostering closer ties between India and Australia.
