Police said no one was injured in the incident. Singh, who is also a spokesperson for the Manipur government, was at home when the blast occurred. The incident has prompted a security review as authorities work to establish who was behind it.

Blast reported at MLA’s residence

The explosion occurred behind the house, within the residential compound, in the early hours of Friday. Initial reports identified the device as a bomb, while other reports described it as a grenade. The exact nature of the explosive has not been officially established.

The Manipur BJP MLA said the blast caused concern but did not result in casualties. The Manipur BJP MLA also appealed against any repeat of such violence. Police and security personnel reached the site after the explosion and began examining the circumstances.

The incident came soon after Singh returned to Imphal from New Delhi. He had travelled to the national capital amid discussions over issues affecting Manipur and had met central leaders before returning to the state.

CM inspects the blast site

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Singh’s residence later on Friday and inspected the blast site. He also received information from security officials about the incident and the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

The chief minister’s visit underlined the seriousness with which the administration is treating the attack on the Manipur BJP MLA. However, officials have not publicly attributed responsibility for the blast, and the motive remains unclear.

The investigation is expected to focus on the explosive used, how it reached the residential compound and who may have carried out the attack. Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the incident.

Local women stage peaceful protest

The blast also led to a public response in Konthoujam. Local women gathered outside the MLA’s residence and staged a peaceful sit-in against the incident.

The protesters called for an end to violent attacks and urged the administration to take steps to prevent similar incidents. Their response reflected concern in the locality following an explosion at the home of an elected representative.

Meanwhile, security arrangements around the residence and the surrounding area are likely to remain under close watch as the investigation continues.

Incident adds to security concerns

The attack comes at a sensitive time for Manipur, where security and law-and-order issues remain a major concern. Recent incidents in different parts of the state have kept security forces on alert.

On August 28, a separate security meeting chaired by the chief minister also discussed a deadly shooting incident along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, according to a report. The meeting directed security officials to identify and take action against those responsible and stressed action against illegal possession of weapons.

The government has also recently been reviewing security conditions in areas affected by fresh tensions. These developments have added pressure on authorities to prevent violence from spreading and to strengthen protection for civilians and public representatives.

Investigation remains the key focus

For the Manipur BJP MLA, the immediate priority is determining the circumstances behind the blast and ensuring the safety of residents and staff at the compound. No injuries were reported, but the attack has raised questions about security around the residence.

Authorities have yet to establish a motive or identify suspects publicly. Therefore, conclusions about those responsible would be premature until investigators complete their work.

Overall, the blast has renewed attention on security in Imphal West and the protection of political representatives. The chief minister’s site inspection and the ongoing police inquiry are expected to shape the next steps as authorities seek answers.
