Tripura Assembly monsoon session will begin on August 27, with the state legislature set to hold sittings over three days. The schedule was finalised by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) on Friday, August 21.
According to the latest schedule, the House will meet on August 27, 28 and 31. Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 11 am each day, making the session an important platform for legislators to raise public issues and review government work.

The Tripura Legislative Assembly’s official National eVidhan portal lists August 27 as the start of the 10th session of the 13th Assembly. The latest BAC meeting, chaired by Speaker Rampada Jamatia, has now outlined a three-day programme.
The decision to begin the session on Thursday was also linked to the need to avoid a weekend interruption. Speaker Jamatia said starting on Friday could often result in a break soon after proceedings begin.
Therefore, the House is expected to function on Thursday, Friday and the following Monday. The arrangement will allow legislators to take up listed business before the Assembly adjourns.
Smart meters and power bills likely to draw attention
One of the issues expected to receive attention during the Tripura Assembly monsoon session is the installation of smart electricity meters and concerns over electricity bills.
A short-duration discussion notice submitted by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on the matter has already been accepted. Other notices may also be taken up during the session, depending on the final list of business.
The issue is likely to provide an opportunity for legislators to raise concerns from consumers and seek clarification from the government. However, the final scope of discussions will depend on the business admitted by the House.
No major Bills currently listed
The latest information from the BAC meeting indicates that no major Bills are currently listed for consideration during the session. However, additional legislation could be introduced if required by the government or if the proceedings create a need for further business.
This marks a change from earlier reports about the proposed Tripura Ease of Doing Business Bill, 2026. Reports published earlier this month had indicated that the Bill could be introduced during the monsoon sitting after being examined by a Select Committee.
The latest BAC position, however, provides the more current picture of the agenda ahead of the session.
Assembly prepares for smoother proceedings
Preparations are also underway to ensure that the House functions smoothly during the three sitting days. The BAC discussed the proposed programme, agenda and arrangements for the proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Assembly is continuing work towards a paperless legislative system. Speaker Jamatia said the transition is underway but will take more time before it can be fully implemented. The initiative is intended to modernise legislative work and improve efficiency through greater use of technology.
The Assembly has also remained active between sessions, with committees holding meetings on government assurances, petitions, estimates, public accounts and other matters in recent weeks.
