In a recent statement, Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khwaja Asif, expressed concern over the presence of terrorists who have sought refuge in neighboring Afghanistan. He emphasized that Pakistan can no longer tolerate this situation and would take decisive action to protect its land and citizens.

During a press conference, Minister Asif criticized Afghanistan for failing to fulfill its obligations as a neighboring and brotherly country, as outlined in the Doha agreement. He highlighted the long-standing history of providing asylum to millions of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, granting them rights and shelter for four to five decades.

However, the minister pointed out the alarming issue of terrorists finding safe haven in Afghanistan and carrying out attacks that result in the loss of innocent Pakistani lives. He stressed that such a situation could no longer be allowed to continue, and Pakistan would utilize all available resources to safeguard its territory and citizens.

The concern raised by Minister Asif sheds light on the complex security challenges faced by both Pakistan and Afghanistan. Despite the Doha agreement signed between the United States and the Taliban, which aimed to bring stability to Afghanistan, the presence of terrorist groups remains a pressing issue. These groups not only pose a threat to Afghanistan but also have direct implications for regional security.

Pakistan has been a longstanding advocate for peace in Afghanistan and has actively participated in international efforts to stabilize the war-torn country. The nation has also borne the brunt of the Afghan conflict, hosting a significant number of Afghan refugees and dealing with the spillover effects of violence and instability.

The statement from Pakistan’s Defence Minister reflects growing frustration with the situation and highlights the need for enhanced cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan in addressing the issue of cross-border terrorism. Both countries must work together to ensure the elimination of terrorist safe havens and prevent further loss of innocent lives.

Efforts to combat terrorism require a comprehensive and coordinated approach, involving intelligence sharing, border management, and joint military operations. Pakistan has consistently called for a regional consensus on counterterrorism, emphasizing the importance of cooperation among neighboring countries to effectively tackle this common threat.

It is crucial for Afghanistan to fulfill its commitments under the Doha agreement and take decisive action against terrorist elements operating within its borders. This includes dismantling their infrastructure, disrupting their financing networks, and apprehending individuals involved in orchestrating attacks in Pakistan.

At the same time, Pakistan must continue its efforts to support Afghanistan in its quest for peace and stability. This involves providing humanitarian assistance, facilitating dialogue between various Afghan stakeholders, and encouraging regional initiatives that promote reconciliation and development.

The international community also has a crucial role to play in supporting both Pakistan and Afghanistan in their counterterrorism endeavors. Increased diplomatic engagement, financial assistance, and technical cooperation can contribute to creating an environment where terrorist groups find no refuge and are effectively countered.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Asif’s recent statement reflects the country’s determination to address the issue of terrorists seeking refuge in neighboring Afghanistan. With a long history of hosting Afghan refugees, Pakistan expects reciprocal action from Afghanistan in eliminating safe havens for terrorist groups. Both countries must work together, along with the support of the international community, to combat terrorism effectively and ensure regional stability.
