Ganesh Puja Agartala celebrations have increased sharply this year, with 94 pujas being organised across the city, compared with 68 recorded in 2025. The rise has prompted police to strengthen security and traffic arrangements around puja venues.

According to a senior police official, the celebrations are being held across six police station areas under West District. Authorities have deployed additional personnel, increased checking and introduced traffic restrictions in parts of the city to support peaceful festivities.

Ganesh Puja Agartala celebrations expand

The number of Ganesh Puja celebrations in Agartala has risen by 26 from last year. The increase reflects a broader presence of community-organised pujas across different parts of the city this festive season.

AD Nagar Police Station has the highest number, with 30 pujas being organised in its area. West Agartala Police Station follows with 22 celebrations, while East Agartala Police Station has 18.

Meanwhile, New Capital Complex and Amtali police stations are each overseeing nine pujas. Another six celebrations are being held under the Airport Police Station area. Together, these account for all 94 pujas reported across the six police station jurisdictions.

Police strengthen Ganesh Puja Agartala security

With more puja venues operating across the city, police have increased their deployment around Agartala. An additional 120 personnel have been deployed across the city and in and around the puja venues.

A senior police official said the increased deployment was necessary because of the rise in the number of celebrations. Police are also carrying out regular vehicle checks and naka checking while maintaining close watch over the overall situation.

The measures are aimed at maintaining law and order as devotees and local residents visit the different pandals. Furthermore, police are monitoring areas around the venues as part of the wider security plan.

Traffic restrictions during Ganesh Puja Agartala

Security arrangements have also been linked with traffic management. Police have imposed no-entry restrictions in some parts of Agartala between 2 pm and midnight.

The restrictions are intended to manage vehicle movement during the celebrations and help maintain smoother movement around busy areas. Consequently, commuters may face changes in access around selected locations during the specified hours.

Police have continued vehicle and naka checking as part of the arrangements. The heightened monitoring is expected to remain an important part of the festive security plan while the celebrations continue.

CM Manik Saha joins celebrations

Tripura Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha inaugurated Ganesh Puja celebrations at several locations in Agartala on Sunday, September 13.

During his visits, the chief minister offered prayers at different puja venues and interacted with members of organising committees and local residents. The venues witnessed participation from devotees and residents, with decorations and religious programmes marking the celebrations.

The chief minister’s participation came as Ganesh Chaturthi festivities gathered momentum across the city.

Ganesh Puja Agartala enters bigger festive season

The increase from 68 pujas last year to 94 this year marks a notable expansion in Agartala’s Ganesh Puja celebrations. At the same time, the higher number of venues has placed greater importance on coordinated security and traffic management.

Police have responded by adding personnel, increasing checks and monitoring puja locations. These steps are designed to support peaceful celebrations while managing the movement of people and vehicles.

Overall, Ganesh Puja Agartala celebrations are taking place on a larger scale this year, with authorities combining increased policing and traffic measures with the city’s growing festive activity. The arrangements underline the need for public cooperation as devotees gather at different venues across Agartala.
