Introduction 

A devastating road accident in the picturesque region of Ladakh’s Leh has left the nation in mourning as nine brave army soldiers lost their lives and one sustained injuries. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday when the military vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road, plummeting into a deep gorge near Kiari in southern Ladakh’s Nyoma.

The nation’s leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed their grief and offered their heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers. President Murmu, in an official statement, stated, “Deeply tragic to learn that a road accident in Leh led to the loss of lives of Indian Army personnel. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May God give them the strength to bear this tragedy. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The nation owes a great debt of gratitude to these soldiers for their selfless sacrifice.”

PMO’s Statement

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) also issued a statement, expressing the pain caused by the mishap and commemorating the soldiers’ service to the nation. “Pained by the mishap near Leh in which we have lost personnel of the Indian Army. Their rich service to the nation will always be remembered,” the statement read. “Condolences to the bereaved families. May those who are injured recover at the earliest.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also shared his condolences and expressed his sadness over the loss. “Saddened by the loss of Indian Army personnel due to an accident near Leh in Ladakh. We will never forget their exemplary service to our nation. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. The injured personnel have been rushed to the Field Hospital. Praying for their speedy recovery,” Singh’s post on social media conveyed.

According to officials, the vehicle carrying ten personnel was en route from Leh to Nyoma when the driver lost control, causing the tragic plunge. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Leh P D Nitya revealed that a police team promptly responded to the accident and transferred the injured soldiers to an Army medical facility. Unfortunately, eight personnel were declared dead at the scene, while another soldier succumbed to injuries later.

Conclusion 

The accident highlights the risks and challenges that Indian Army personnel face while serving in difficult terrains. Their unwavering dedication and sacrifice in protecting the nation’s borders are a testament to their bravery.

The entire nation mourns the loss of these soldiers and stands united in supporting the bereaved families during this difficult time.
