Detailed News Report
The Mizoram government has taken a major step toward modernising waste management by launching the FAINA PUITU mobile application in Aizawl. Lalnilawma inaugurated the app at the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) office on Monday.
The new application introduces several digital features to simplify sanitation services. For instance, users can track waste collection trucks in real time and check collection schedules. In addition, they can request door-to-door garbage pickup and sell recyclable materials such as plastic, metal, cardboard, and e-waste.
Furthermore, the app provides access to waste management rules and enables users to file complaints easily. Therefore, it aims to improve transparency and efficiency in sanitation services across the state.
Authorities have already implemented the app successfully in the Aibawk RD Block. However, officials have not yet rolled it out in Aizawl Municipality. Meanwhile, the government plans to expand its reach in the coming months.
During the launch, Lalnilawma expressed satisfaction with the initiative. He stated that the app reflects Mizoram’s commitment to keeping pace with global technological progress. Moreover, he described it as a tool that saves both time and energy for citizens.
The minister also highlighted the concept of “waste to wealth.” He explained that proper waste management can generate economic value, as researchers have often emphasised. Consequently, the government aims to promote recycling and sustainable practices through the app.
In addition, he stressed the importance of following the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026. To ensure compliance, the government plans to collaborate with local Village Councils for waste processing outside urban areas.
The minister also linked the initiative to the New Education Policy, noting that cleanliness and sanitation form essential life skills. Therefore, he encouraged citizens to adopt responsible waste management habits and actively use the app.
The event was chaired by PHED Engineer-in-Chief Er. Zodinthari. Meanwhile, Laldinthara, CEO of Waste Technology and Bio Energy, demonstrated the app’s features. As a result, attendees gained a clear understanding of how the system works.
