India has launched the world’s first intranasal Covid-19 vaccine, named Covi-Nasal. The vaccine, developed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV), is a nasal spray that can be administered easily and quickly, making it suitable for mass vaccination drives.

The intranasal vaccine uses a live attenuated virus, similar to the nasal flu vaccine, that triggers an immune response in the nose and upper respiratory tract, providing protection against the virus. The vaccine has been found to be safe and effective in animal trials, and human clinical trials are currently underway.

The vaccine is expected to be available at a much lower cost compared to other Covid-19 vaccines, making it accessible to a larger population. The government plans to initially supply the vaccine to essential and frontline workers, and later make it available to the general population.

The introduction of the intranasal vaccine is a significant step in the fight against the pandemic, as it allows for more flexible and targeted vaccination strategies. The nasal spray can be easily administered in crowded places like schools, offices, and public transport, making it ideal for mass vaccination drives.

The vaccine can also be stored at room temperature, making it easier to transport and distribute in remote and rural areas, where cold storage facilities are limited. It will be easier to administer to children and elderly people who might find it difficult to take the vaccine through an injection.

The Indian government has also announced plans to make the vaccine available to other countries, as part of its efforts to support global Covid-19 vaccination efforts. The intranasal vaccine has the potential to be a game-changer in the fight against the pandemic, as it is easy to administer and does not require the same level of cold storage and transportation infrastructure as other vaccines.

In conclusion, India has launched the world’s first intranasal Covid-19 vaccine, named Covi-Nasal, developed by ICMR and NIV. The vaccine is expected to be much cheaper than other Covid-19 vaccines and also can be stored at room temperature, making it easier to transport and distribute in remote and rural areas. The vaccine is a significant step in the fight against the pandemic, as it allows for more flexible and targeted vaccination strategies. The Indian government has also announced plans to make the vaccine available to other countries, as part of its efforts to support global Covid-19 vaccination efforts.
