During a speech in London, Indian Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar emphasized that India’s democratic values are flourishing and that there is no curtailment of any democratic value system. Dhankhar encouraged Indian students in the UK to counter false narratives about their country and actively engage in sharing the true story of India’s democracy with the world.

Despite recent criticism of India’s handling of the farmers’ protest and the arrest of activists and journalists, Dhankhar’s message is that these incidents do not reflect the overall state of democracy in India. He believes that India’s democracy is thriving and called on Indian students to counter any false narratives that suggest otherwise.

In neighboring Pakistan, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has accused a top officer of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of being involved in the murder of a senior journalist. Khan claims that Major-General Faisal Naseer, who had allegedly tried to kill him twice, was also involved in the journalist’s murder.

Khan’s allegations against the ISI and the military establishment highlight the challenges faced by Pakistan in establishing a stable democracy. India also faces similar challenges, and Dhankhar’s call for Indian students to actively engage in promoting India’s democratic values serves as a reminder of the importance of safeguarding democracy.
