Renowned quizmaster Siddhartha Basu is set to recreate the magic of beloved quiz shows from decades ago, such as “Quiz Time” and “Mastermind India,” with his latest venture, “Quizzer of the Year.” In an era dominated by alternate facts and narratives, Basu aims to cultivate a “factual culture” through this nationwide quiz show. The streaming platform SonyLIV will host the show, which primarily targets students in Classes 9 to 12 during the upcoming 2023-24 academic year, although participation is open to others as well. Participants will compete in zonal championships, leading up to the national finals where an educational scholarship of Rs one crore awaits the winner.

With the revival of “Quizzer of the Year,” Basu envisions creating a community that engages in year-round quiz activities. By fostering a knowledge community, the show aims to counter misinformation and promote a culture grounded in verifiable facts. Basu expressed his motivation behind the show, stating, “Hopefully, this round-the-year activity will build a community… that is a very important motive so people can keep playing and we can build a knowledge community and also build a factual culture.”

The rich legacy of Basu as a quizmaster has endeared him to audiences for many years. His previous shows, “Quiz Time” and “Mastermind India,” captivated viewers with their intellectually stimulating content and engaging format. By returning to his role as quizmaster, Basu aims to recreate the captivating atmosphere that made these shows a resounding success. “Quizzer of the Year” aspires to not only entertain but also educate and inspire the younger generation.

The target audience for “Quizzer of the Year” primarily comprises students in Classes 9 to 12. By engaging with this demographic, the show aims to ignite a passion for knowledge and learning at a crucial stage in their academic journey. Encouraging students to expand their intellectual horizons, the quiz show seeks to instill a thirst for knowledge that extends beyond textbooks. By nurturing a fact-oriented mindset, Basu and his team hope to equip the participants with critical thinking skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.

The streaming platform SonyLIV serves as an ideal host for “Quizzer of the Year.” With its wide reach and user-friendly interface, SonyLIV provides a convenient platform for students and quiz enthusiasts to participate and engage with the show’s content. The accessibility of the streaming platform ensures that the show’s impact extends far beyond traditional television audiences, reaching a diverse array of viewers across the nation.

The structure of “Quizzer of the Year” comprises zonal championships and culminates in the national finals. This format not only adds an element of excitement and competition but also encourages participants from different regions to showcase their knowledge. The nationwide nature of the show ensures that diverse perspectives and regional expertise are celebrated, contributing to a rich tapestry of facts and information.

At the pinnacle of the competition lies the coveted educational scholarship of Rs one crore, which serves as a powerful incentive for the participants. This substantial scholarship prize underscores the importance of education and knowledge acquisition, reinforcing the show’s overarching goal of fostering a factual culture. By rewarding the winners with a scholarship, “Quizzer of the Year” acknowledges and supports the participants’ intellectual pursuits, further inspiring them and their peers to engage in a lifelong quest for knowledge.

As “Quizzer of the Year” prepares to captivate audiences once again, Siddhartha Basu’s vision of building a factual culture gains momentum.
