A formal complaint was lodged at the Jadavpur police station a day after the occurrence, prompting authorities to investigate the matter. According to sources, the self-proclaimed leader of the group, identified as Qazi Sadiq Hussain, purportedly the general secretary of the ‘Asian Human Rights Society,’ led approximately 25-30 individuals onto the university premises while dressed in army uniforms.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University, Buddhadev Sao, addressed the media regarding the incident. Sao revealed that the group had claimed to represent a human rights organization, but he insisted that they formally introduce themselves by submitting a written communique along with their identity cards. The university administration’s response suggests that the entry of individuals dressed in army attire had caught them off guard.

Police spokesperson files complaint

A police spokesperson confirmed the filing of a complaint against Qazi Sadiq Hussain, who was identified as the self-styled general secretary of the ‘Asian Human Rights Society.’ The incident occurred around 4:20 p.m., as Hussain and his associates entered the campus premises, causing a stir among students, faculty, and staff.

Buddhadev Sao further elaborated on his interaction with the group, stating that they had initially approached him with a request for a meeting. Acknowledging their claim to represent a human rights group, Sao decided to grant them an opportunity. In response, he communicated with them in writing, urging them to provide their identity cards for verification purposes. The university’s administration appeared cautious and determined to ensure the authenticity of the group’s intentions.

Reports indicate that after the initial entry, the leader of the group, along with two others, visited the office of Vice-Chancellor Buddhadev Sao. However, they left the premises shortly thereafter. The nature of their conversation during the visit remains undisclosed.

As news of the incident spread, speculations and questions arose regarding the true motives behind the group’s actions. The unauthorized entry into the university campus wearing military attire raised concerns about security protocols and highlighted the necessity of maintaining a safe and secure learning environment.

Conclusion

The incident has triggered debates among students, faculty, and the general public, as the community seeks clarity on the group’s objectives and whether their claim of representing a human rights organization holds true. As investigations unfold, the focus remains on discerning the authenticity of the group’s intentions and ensuring the safety and integrity of the university campus.
