The 54-year-old or 55-year-old musician, identified in different reports as Chongtham Vikram Singh, died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of men in Kilokari, southeast Delhi. Police have arrested seven adults and apprehended a juvenile in connection with the case.
Tangkhul body seeks impartial probe
In its statement, the TKLD said it was deeply shocked and saddened by the incident. The organisation urged the Delhi Police and other authorities to identify everyone responsible and ensure that legal action follows the investigation.
The organisation also expressed concern about the safety of people from the Northeast living in the national capital. It stressed that residents should be able to live without fear of violence or intimidation.

What happened to Chongtham Vikram
According to police and family accounts cited in media reports, the incident began late on Sunday night. Vikram had reportedly objected to noise and a disturbance outside his home in Kilokari.
The confrontation allegedly escalated, and he was attacked by a group of men. Reports said Vikram was chased into the building where he lived and assaulted in the stair area. He was later taken to Holy Family Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Two CCTV recordings have also emerged in connection with the case. The footage reportedly shows the accused leaving the building, followed later by Vikram’s family taking him to hospital.

Delhi Police have arrested seven adults and apprehended a juvenile in connection with the alleged assault. Officials have said the circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive are being examined as part of the investigation.
Some members of the Northeast community have raised concerns about a possible racial angle. However, police have said that no racial motive has been established so far. Therefore, the circumstances and motive should not be treated as settled until the investigation is completed.

He also came from a prominent musical family. His mother, Chongtham Ongbi Kamala Devi, is a noted Manipuri singer. Vikram’s long association with music made his death especially significant for artists and cultural communities in Manipur.
