The Navi Mumbai Metro is a rapid transit system in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The system is planned to consist of five lines, totaling 106.4 kilometers (66.1 mi) in length. As of 2023, one line is partly operational, and the remaining are under construction. The foundation stone for the project was laid on 1 May 2011, with a target completion date of 2014. However, due to a number of factors, including delays in land acquisition and financial problems, the project was not completed on time.

The Navi Mumbai Metro is being developed by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), a planning agency for Navi Mumbai. The project is being funded by a consortium of banks, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank.

The first line of the Navi Mumbai Metro, Line 1, commenced operations on 17 November 2023. The line is 11.10 km (6.89 mi) long and has 11 stations. The line runs from Belapur to Pendhar.

The remaining four lines are under construction and are expected to be completed by 2026.

The Navi Mumbai Metro is expected to provide a number of benefits to Navi Mumbai, including:

  • Reduced traffic congestion: The metro will provide a convenient and affordable alternative to private cars, which will help to reduce traffic congestion in the city.
  • Improved air quality: The metro will also help to improve air quality by reducing the number of cars on the road.
  • Economic development: The metro is expected to boost economic development in Navi Mumbai by making it easier for people to get to and from work.
  • Improved connectivity: The metro will improve connectivity between different parts of Navi Mumbai.
