In a recent interview with Nikkei Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the responsibility of Pakistan in establishing a conducive environment, free from terrorism and hostilities, for fostering normal and neighborly relations with India. The discussion revolved around India’s intricate relationships with its closest neighbors, namely China and Pakistan.

PM Modi underscored the significance of a terrorism-free environment as a prerequisite for nurturing positive and stable relations between India and Pakistan. He emphasized that Pakistan must take decisive action against terrorist organizations operating from its soil. By dismantling terrorist infrastructure and curbing the activities of extremist groups, Pakistan can create an environment that allows for meaningful engagement and peaceful coexistence with India.

India has consistently maintained that cross-border terrorism sponsored by Pakistan has been a major obstacle to bilateral relations. PM Modi reiterated the importance of eliminating this menace to establish an atmosphere of trust and mutual cooperation between the two nations. A sustained effort by Pakistan to address this issue would not only enhance regional security but also pave the way for constructive dialogue and the resolution of longstanding disputes.

While discussing India’s relationship with China, PM Modi highlighted the need for maintaining peace and tranquility along the border. He expressed his government’s commitment to resolving border disputes through peaceful negotiations and diplomatic channels. India has consistently advocated for peaceful coexistence and the peaceful settlement of disputes, including the boundary issue, to ensure stability in the region.

PM Modi’s statements reflect India’s firm stance on terrorism and its commitment to regional stability. By calling on Pakistan to create a conducive environment free from terrorism, he sends a clear message that India is ready to engage in meaningful dialogue and constructive engagement if the necessary conditions are met. The onus lies on Pakistan to take concrete steps in curbing terrorism and addressing India’s concerns to pave the way for improved relations.

It is worth noting that India has always been open to dialogue and cooperation with its neighbors, based on mutual respect and understanding. The government has actively pursued initiatives such as the “Neighborhood First” policy, which seeks to strengthen ties with neighboring countries through enhanced connectivity, economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges. However, the persistent challenge of terrorism emanating from across the border has hindered progress in building trust and advancing bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized Pakistan’s responsibility in creating a terrorism-free environment to foster normal and neighborly relations with India. By addressing the issue of cross-border terrorism and taking decisive action against extremist groups, Pakistan can pave the way for meaningful engagement and peaceful coexistence with India. PM Modi’s statements underscore India’s commitment to regional stability and the resolution of disputes through peaceful means. It is now crucial for Pakistan to take concrete steps in addressing India’s concerns and eliminating terrorism as a crucial step towards building a positive and cooperative relationship between the two nations.
