The initiative aimed to promote environmental conservation. At the same time, it encouraged greater community participation in afforestation activities across the region.

Officials and Community Members Join the Campaign

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) and ECMM Chairperson Nancy Yirang, ECMM Mission Manager Olen Megu Damin, Circle Officer Toimi Tagi, and other officials attended the programme.

Meanwhile, residents of Ayeng village, led by the Baba 11 team, and Kiyit village, represented by the Siyon Sirum group, actively joined the plantation drive. Their participation also reflected the community’s commitment to protecting the environment.

Tree Plantation Is an Investment for the Future

Addressing villagers, community leaders, and officials, Oken Tayeng said tree plantation is an investment in the region’s long-term environmental security.

According to him, trees do much more than improve the landscape or support eco-tourism. They also provide clean air, conserve water resources, prevent soil erosion, protect biodiversity, and help reduce the effects of climate change.

Furthermore, Tayeng said preserving greenery and protecting the region’s natural heritage are essential for the well-being of both present and future generations.

Mission Officials Stress Long-Term Care

ECMM Mission Manager Olen Megu Damin said the success of the campaign depends not only on planting saplings but also on ensuring their survival.

Therefore, he urged villagers and volunteers to care for every sapling over the coming years. He further explained that regular maintenance and monitoring are essential for achieving the mission’s conservation goals.

Similarly, ADC and ECMM Chairperson Nancy Yirang encouraged residents to take responsibility for protecting the planted saplings.

Moreover, she urged villagers to consider the trees a lasting legacy for future generations. She added that consistent care, protection, and collective responsibility can transform plantation drives into sustainable forests.

Strong Community Participation Marks the Event

The programme concluded with enthusiastic participation from government officials, elected representatives, village leaders, volunteers, and local residents.

Finally, Oken Tayeng thanked the ADC, Circle Officer, ZPM of Mebo Banggo-II, village headmen, Baba 11 volunteers, Siyon Sirum members, and the public for making the plantation drive a success.
