35-Member Committee Features Senior Leaders

The Pradesh Election Committee comprises 35 members and brings together several senior and experienced leaders of the party. Prominent members include Debabrata Saikia, Rakibul Hussain, Pradyut Bordoloi, Bhupen Kumar Borah, Ripun Borah, Paban Singh Ghatowar, and Wajid Ali Chaudhary.

In addition, the committee includes leaders such as Rosilina Tirkey, Jakir Hussain Sikdar, Pradeep Sarkar, and Arun Dutt Mazumdar. Party sources said the mix of seasoned leaders and organisational figures is aimed at ensuring broad representation and effective coordination across the state.

Representation from Frontal and Departmental Wings

Apart from senior leaders, the committee will also include the APCC general secretary (organisation). Moreover, the heads of all frontal organisations have been made part of the election body. This is expected to help streamline decision-making and campaign planning.

Furthermore, chairpersons of key Congress departments, including the Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Minority, and Adivasi Congress wings, have been included. The Tea Garden Cell has also been given representation, reflecting the party’s focus on important social and occupational groups in Assam.

Focus on Election Planning and Coordination

Party leaders stated that the Pradesh Election Committee will be responsible for overseeing crucial aspects of the electoral process. These include candidate selection, constituency-level coordination, campaign strategy, and outreach programmes.

Additionally, the committee is expected to work closely with district and block-level units. This coordination aims to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and ensure that the party’s campaign messages reach voters effectively.

Part of Wider Organisational Push

The formation of the Pradesh Election Committee is part of Congress’s broader organisational preparations ahead of the Assam Assembly elections. In recent weeks, the party has been focusing on internal restructuring and strengthening its state unit.

According to Congress leaders, the early constitution of the committee will allow adequate time for planning and consensus-building. As a result, the party hopes to present a united and focused front during the election campaign.

With Gaurav Gogoi at the helm, the Congress aims to energise its cadre and sharpen its electoral strategy. The coming months are expected to see increased political activity as the party gears up to take on its rivals in the Assam Assembly elections.
