MZP and AMPEDA Withdraw Fuel Station Shutdown Plans
The MZP and AMPEDA called off their proposed indefinite shutdowns after discussions with the Mizoram government.

The MZP plans to discuss these issues during its assembly from September 23 to 25.

The MZP has also appealed to residents not to allow non-Mizos to use their names or land for business activities solely for financial gain.

The latest development follows a dispute between the MZP and AMPEDA over alleged financial collections at some petrol stations operated by non-Mizos.
AMPEDA had earlier announced plans to shut fuel stations indefinitely from September 17. The association alleged that MZP members had forcibly collected money from managers at certain outlets.
AMPEDA also alleged that some managers received requests to transfer ₹1.20 lakh each to the student organisation.
However, the MZP denied allegations of coercion or intimidation. Lalremruata said the money collected from one filling station represented a voluntary contribution from its owner for the organisation’s upcoming assembly.
Both Shutdown Calls Withdrawn
Following AMPEDA’s proposed shutdown, the MZP separately called for the closure of fuel stations owned or operated by non-tribal people or those employing non-Mizos from September 17.
However, the September 16 government meeting changed the situation.
Lalremruata said AMPEDA withdrew all its demands against the MZP during the meeting. Following the development, both organisations withdrew their respective shutdown plans.
The decision has helped avoid an immediate disruption to fuel services across Mizoram.
