The NH-27 Khetri accident has renewed concern over road safety after a motorcyclist was critically injured in a collision with a passenger car on Friday, September 4. The crash occurred at Khaloibari village under Dimoria constituency in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district.

The injured rider, identified as Indramohan Goswami, was taken to a medical facility by Khetri traffic police. The latest incident has added to mounting concern over the condition of the highway near Khetri, a stretch that has witnessed several crashes in recent days.

NH-27 Khetri accident leaves rider critical

According to reports, the passenger car, bearing registration number AS 12 H 1074, collided with a motorcycle registered as AS 01 D 0360. The impact left Goswami seriously injured.

Khetri traffic police reached the site after receiving information about the crash. Officers shifted the rider for medical treatment, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

Authorities have not publicly established the exact cause of the latest collision. Therefore, details about speed, road conditions at the precise crash point and other possible factors remain subject to further investigation.

NH-27 Khetri accident follows deadly crash

The latest collision came only days after a fatal crash on the same NH-27 stretch on August 30. At least seven people were killed after a commercial passenger vehicle lost control, crossed the divider and collided with an oncoming goods truck near Khetri.

Reports linked that crash to a large pothole on the highway. The passenger vehicle was travelling towards Guwahati from the Nagaon direction when it reportedly encountered the damaged section before the collision.

The August 30 crash prompted anger among residents. Local people blocked the highway and raised concerns about potholes, road crossings, uneven surfaces and drainage problems.

NH-27 Khetri accident puts repairs under scrutiny

The NH-27 Khetri accident has added pressure on authorities to address road safety concerns. Following the deadly August 30 crash, an emergency meeting was held on August 31 involving local representatives and government authorities.

The meeting focused on fixing responsibility and completing repairs on the affected stretch within seven days. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited the crash site and said a police inquiry had found that highway maintenance was inadequate.

The government said the National Highways Authority of India, or NHAI, had been asked to repair the affected section. The families of those killed in the August 30 crash were also provided ex-gratia assistance.

Residents demand safer highway

Concerns continued after the August 30 tragedy. A September 2 report recorded another collision near Dhupguri in the Khetri area. Two vehicles were damaged after one driver braked suddenly to avoid a large pothole; no injuries were reported in that incident.

Residents have claimed that several accidents occur frequently because of the deteriorating highway surface. A freight truck was also reportedly involved in an earlier incident after hitting the same pothole.

Meanwhile, several organisations from Dimoria filed a complaint at Khetri Police Station on September 4 against NHAI over the August 30 fatal crash. They sought an investigation into whether road construction, maintenance or safety deficiencies contributed to the accident.

NH-27 Khetri accident keeps safety concerns alive

The latest crash has reinforced calls for sustained attention to the NH-27 stretch near Khetri. While the circumstances of the September 4 collision involving Goswami remain unclear, the repeated incidents have intensified public concern.

The organisations that filed the complaint have also demanded corrective measures and accountability if any lapses are established. Their demands underline the need for prompt repairs and regular monitoring of a busy highway used by commuters and commercial vehicles.

The repeated crashes have also shifted attention from individual driver behaviour to the wider safety environment. Residents and local groups say repairs must address both visible potholes and other highway hazards. They have called for stronger monitoring after repairs are completed, so damaged sections do not remain a risk for road users. Such measures are especially important on a route carrying regular passenger and freight traffic between Guwahati and Upper Assam.

For now, the condition of the injured motorcyclist remains a key concern. Further information from police or medical authorities is expected as the investigation into the latest collision continues.
