The Imphal Valley in the Indian state of Manipur remained on edge on Friday as authorities scrambled to maintain peace in the wake of deadly riots that erupted over the past two days. The government has deployed additional security forces from neighboring states via road and air to bolster efforts to keep the peace in the state.

Reports indicate that sporadic gunfire exchanges between militant groups and security forces have been reported in various hill districts surrounding the valley. However, peace seems to be holding in the Imphal Valley, albeit in a tense and uneasy manner.

According to a senior police officer, gunfights between militant groups and security forces were reported in Kangvai in Churachandpur district, the western hill range of Phougakchao in adjoining Bishnupur district, and Dolaithabi and Pukhao in Imphal East district.

The ethnic clashes in Manipur have resulted in several deaths, with multiple incidents of violence reported in recent days. The state government has been attempting to restore order, but the situation remains volatile.

The central government has also been closely monitoring the situation, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing concern over the violence and appealing for calm. He urged all parties to work together to maintain peace and harmony in the state.

The state government has imposed a curfew in several areas to prevent further violence, and additional security personnel have been deployed to maintain order. The government has also suspended mobile internet services in the state to prevent the spread of misinformation and rumors.

Manipur is no stranger to ethnic conflicts, with several insurgent groups operating in the state. These groups have long demanded greater autonomy and independence, and their activities have often led to violent clashes with security forces.

The latest round of violence was triggered by the death of a popular local leader, sparking protests and subsequent clashes between rival ethnic groups. The situation quickly escalated, with reports of arson and looting in several areas.

The state government has called for calm and urged residents to refrain from engaging in violent activities. Officials have also appealed to the media to report responsibly and avoid spreading rumors or sensationalizing the situation.

As tensions remain high, the state government has vowed to take all necessary steps to restore peace and normalcy in the state. The central government has also assured full support in this regard.

The situation in Manipur remains tense, and all stakeholders must work together to prevent further violence and restore peace and stability in the state.
