BJP new team gets a major organisational boost as party president Nitin Nabin announced a reshaped national office-bearers list on August 17, with former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb appointed national general secretary.
BJP new team also gives the Northeast a visible place in the party’s national structure. Nagaland Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak and Assam leader Mriganka Deo Barman have been appointed national secretaries, alongside Deb’s elevation to the general secretary post.
BJP new team gives Deb a national role
Deb is among eight national general secretaries named by Nabin. The list includes Vinod Tawde, Sunil Bansal, Biplab Kumar Deb, Smriti Irani, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia.
The appointment returns Deb to a prominent organisational role after his tenure as Tripura chief minister. He became BJP state president in 2016 and led the party to power in the 2018 Assembly election, ending the Left Front’s 25-year rule. He served as chief minister from 2018 to 2022 and is now the BJP MP from West Tripura.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha congratulated Deb and said his administrative experience and grassroots leadership would strengthen the party’s organisation across the country.
BJP new team expands Northeast representation
The Northeast’s presence goes beyond Deb. Phangnon Konyak, a Rajya Sabha MP from Nagaland, has been appointed national secretary. Mriganka Deo Barman of Assam has also joined the national secretaries’ group.
Their appointments place three Northeast leaders in prominent national organisational positions. BJP new team, therefore, reflects the party’s effort to maintain representation from different regions while combining experienced politicians with younger faces.
The wider list includes 16 national secretaries. Besides Konyak and Barman, the group includes K Surendran, Bhola Singh, Pradip Varma, Sandeep Pathak, Anil Antony, M Venkateshan, Manoj Tigga, Rohan Gupta and others.
The party’s national office-bearers list also includes several women and leaders with experience in state and central politics. Six of the 13 national vice presidents are women, according to the published list. The appointments show that the reshuffle is not limited to one organisational layer.
BJP new team includes veterans and fresh faces
Nabin’s organisational reshuffle also brings several experienced leaders into key positions. The party has appointed 13 national vice presidents, including Vasundhara Raje, Tirath Singh Rawat, Ram Madhav, Baijayant Jay Panda, D Purandeshwari, Rekha Verma, Bharti Pravin Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal, Lal Singh Arya, M Nagaraja, Tariq Mansoor, Varshaben Doshi and Madhuchandra Kar.
B.L. Santhosh will continue as national general secretary (organisation), while Shivprakash and Saudan Singh have been appointed national joint general secretaries (organisation). Piyush Goyal remains national treasurer, while Rajesh Mangal has been named joint treasurer.
The party has also assigned responsibilities across its organisational wings. Tarun Chugh will serve as central office in-charge, while Hemang Joshi and Roop Kumari Choudhary will head the Yuva Morcha and Mahila Morcha respectively.
The party has also announced new heads for several morchas, including the OBC, Kisan, SC, ST and Minority wings. These appointments are intended to support the BJP’s organisational work across different social and regional groups.
Key roles strengthen BJP’s organisation
The new structure also includes changes in communication and digital operations. Anil Baluni will continue as media convenor, supported by Ashish Usha Agrawal, Pradeep Bhandari and Siddharth Yadav as co-convenors. Deepak Mhaskey has been appointed social media convenor.
For the Northeast, Sambit Patra will serve as the party’s North-East coordinator, with Rajiv Babbar as joint coordinator. This structure places the regional representation within a broader national organisational framework.
The appointments came nearly six months after Nabin took charge as BJP president. The party said the new office-bearers would take charge immediately.
Meanwhile, the leadership changes are being closely watched because the next election cycle will test how effectively the new team translates national appointments into ground-level organisation.
What BJP new team faces next
The reshuffle comes ahead of a significant electoral cycle in 2027, when several states, including Uttar Pradesh, are scheduled to vote. The new leadership will therefore be expected to manage organisational work while preparing the party for upcoming contests.
For the Northeast, Deb’s elevation and the appointments of Konyak and Barman provide the region with three senior organisational voices at the national level. Overall, BJP new team combines established leaders, regional representation and new faces as Nabin begins shaping the party’s organisation for the next electoral phase.
