Silchar BJP ticket has triggered a fresh protest ahead of the Silchar Municipal Corporation election. Party worker Rathindranath Saha will contest from Ward 11 as an Independent after the BJP denied him its nomination.
Saha has also placed a banner outside his residence declaring that BJP leaders are not welcome at his “sweet home”. His protest highlights growing dissatisfaction over candidate selection within the party as the civic poll campaign gathers pace.
Silchar BJP ticket denial triggers dissent
Saha has openly challenged the BJP’s decision to deny him the Ward 11 ticket. He has also criticised the process through which the party selected candidates for the municipal election.
According to India Today NE, Saha alleged that the party overlooked several workers who had worked for the BJP for years. He said the decision prompted him to enter the election independently rather than withdraw from the contest.
Saha also told Aaj Tak Bangla that his family had maintained a long association with the BJP. He claimed that his father and grandfather supported the party from its earlier days and that he later joined the RSS and VHP.

The Congress also faced internal protests after announcing its candidate list. Workers opposing the selections allegedly vandalised parts of the Cachar District Congress office on September 10. The party later expelled 15 leaders and workers for three years over alleged indiscipline.

Civic poll campaign enters final phase
The Silchar Municipal Corporation election will take place on October 3, while officials will count the votes on October 6, according to The Assam Tribune. The nomination process has already moved through scrutiny, and September 17 marked the deadline for candidates to withdraw.
Meanwhile, the BJP has intensified its ward-level preparations. State president Dilip Saikia has asked party workers to strengthen booth-level mobilisation and voter outreach in Silchar.
