Mizoram hockey secures a clean-sheet win
Mizoram’s 2-0 victory over Kerala provided a positive start to its national championship campaign. The team kept Kerala scoreless while finding the net twice, securing all three points from the contest.
For Mizoram hockey, the clean sheet is also significant because Division B matches can have a direct impact on the final standings. The tournament format states that the top two teams in each Division B pool will be promoted to Division A, while the bottom two will move to Division C.

The 16th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship is being hosted in Pune from August 12 to 23. A total of 30 teams are taking part in the competition across Divisions A, B and C.
Division A has four pools and includes several established state sides. Division B, meanwhile, includes Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Delhi, Kerala, Mizoram, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Bihar and Goans Hockey.
The structure gives teams outside the top division an opportunity to compete for promotion. As a result, every league match carries importance, particularly early in the tournament.
Mizoram hockey faces a demanding Division B campaign
Mizoram hockey entered the championship in a competitive Division B group. Its opening win over Kerala puts the side in a useful position as the league phase continues.
However, the team will need to maintain consistency across its remaining fixtures. Division B does not have a knockout stage, so points collected during the league campaign will determine which teams finish in the promotion places and which face relegation.

Mizoram has also featured prominently in other Hockey India competitions. Its women’s programme has recorded multiple medals at national level, according to Hockey Mizoram, reflecting the state’s established presence in the sport.
The current junior side will now aim to turn its opening result into a sustained campaign in Pune.
