India defeated Australia by 44 runs in the second T20 international at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, November 26, 2023. This victory gives India a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

India’s innings

India won the toss and elected to bat first. The home team got off to a flying start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan putting on a quickfire 50-run partnership for the first wicket. Jaiswal continued his fine form, scoring a blistering 50 off just 24 balls.

Kishan was also in good touch, scoring 52 off 29 balls. The duo laid the foundation for India’s big total.

Ruturaj Gaikwad also made a significant contribution, scoring 58 off 43 balls. He shared a 50-run partnership with Ishan Kishan.

In the end, India finished with a massive total of 235 for 4.

Australia’s innings

Australia’s chase got off to a bad start, as they lost three wickets in the powerplay. They were reduced to 50 for 3, with Marcus Stoinis and Tim David at the crease.

Stoinis and David steadied the ship, putting on an 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket. However, they were unable to carry on for too long.

Stoinis was dismissed for 20, while David was dismissed for 29. Australia’s hopes of chasing down the target were fading fast.

Matthew Wade, the Australia captain, made a valiant effort to keep his team in the game. He scored an unbeaten 42 off 23 balls, but it was not enough.

In the end, Australia finished with 191 for 9, losing the match by 44 runs.

Player of the Match

Yashasvi Jaiswal was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant 50-run innings.

Brief scores

India 235 for 4 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 50, Ishan Kishan 52, Ruturaj Gaikwad 58) beat Australia 191 for 9 (Matthew Wade 42*, Marcus Stoinis 20, Tim David 29) by 44 runs.
