Sikkim CM Raises Concern Over India’s Global Image

Prem Singh Tamang on Saturday strongly criticised the actions of the Indian National Congress during the Global AI Summit hosted in New Delhi. He said such disruptions could negatively impact India’s global image at a time when international attention is focused on the country’s technological progress.

Tamang emphasised that the Global AI Summit provides a major platform for India to present its achievements before global leaders, technology experts and investors. Therefore, he argued that any disruption during such a high-profile international gathering risks undermining the country’s credibility.

He noted that India aims to strengthen its position as a global leader in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Consequently, he said political conduct during such events should reflect maturity and responsibility.

Opposition Role Must Remain Constructive

At the same time, Tamang acknowledged that political opposition forms a vital part of democracy. However, he stressed that actions which cast a negative shadow on the nation’s image at an international forum are neither responsible nor acceptable.

Furthermore, he called on political parties to differentiate between domestic political debates and events that showcase national achievements. According to him, moments of global recognition require unity and collective responsibility.

National Interest Over Partisan Politics

Tamang underlined that national priorities must take precedence over partisan interests. He said when India highlights its development and innovation before the global community, leaders across party lines should support efforts that enhance the country’s reputation.

He added that safeguarding India’s international image remains crucial, especially as the nation competes with other global powers in technology and innovation. In this context, he urged political stakeholders to adopt a more constructive approach.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid heightened political exchanges surrounding the summit. Nevertheless, he reiterated that India’s long-term growth and global standing should remain the central focus.

As the Global AI Summit continues in New Delhi, the event draws attention from international delegates and industry leaders. Meanwhile, Tamang’s statement has added a political dimension to the discussions, highlighting the broader debate on balancing democratic dissent with national representation on global platforms.
