The Producers Guild of India has spoken out against the ban on “The Kerala Story”, stating that only the Central Board of Film Certification has the authority to decide whether or not a film should be released. The guild released a statement on Tuesday, one day after the West Bengal government ordered an immediate ban on the screening of the film in the state.

The controversial film has also faced cancellations of screenings in Tamil Nadu, with multiplexes citing law and order issues and poor public response. The film has been at the center of controversy due to its depiction of the state’s communist movement.

The Producers Guild of India has expressed concern about the impact of the ban on freedom of expression, stating that it sets a dangerous precedent. The guild has called on the authorities to ensure that filmmakers are able to express themselves without fear of censorship or reprisals.

The ban on “The Kerala Story” has sparked a debate about the role of the government in regulating films. Many filmmakers and artists have criticized the ban, arguing that it is a violation of their right to freedom of expression.

The controversy surrounding the film has also raised questions about the role of cinema in shaping public opinion. While some argue that films have the power to influence public opinion, others believe that censorship and bans are necessary to prevent the spread of hate speech and incitement to violence.

The Producers Guild of India has called for a dialogue between filmmakers and the authorities to address these issues and ensure that the film industry is able to operate without fear of censorship or reprisals. The guild has emphasized the importance of protecting freedom of expression, stating that it is essential for the growth and development of the film industry.
