Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former prime minister and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has accused Major-General Faisal Naseer, a high-ranking officer of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, of attempting to assassinate him twice and being involved in the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif. Khan made these allegations while addressing a rally in Lahore from his bullet-bomb-proof vehicle, which was broadcast live in other cities through a video link.

Khan’s accusations against Naseer have further strained the already tense relationship between the government and the military in Pakistan. The ISI, which is Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, is considered to be one of the most powerful institutions in the country and has often been accused of meddling in politics.

The allegations of Naseer’s involvement in the assassination attempts on Khan and the murder of Sharif are serious and could have significant implications for the military and the government. Khan has also accused Naseer of subjecting his party’s senator, Azam Swati, to severe torture and stripping him naked.

The PTI leader’s accusations against Naseer come at a time when there is growing tension between the military and the government over the issue of the country’s accountability process. Khan’s government has been accused of being too lenient on corrupt politicians, while the military has been accused of using its influence to protect its own interests.

Khan’s speech at the Lahore rally was intended to rally support for his party ahead of the upcoming elections. He urged his supporters to remain united and to continue to fight for their rights.

The allegations against Naseer have been met with skepticism by some in Pakistan, who view them as a political ploy by Khan to deflect attention from his government’s failures. However, Khan’s accusations have also been welcomed by those who believe that the military needs to be held accountable for its actions.

The Pakistani government has not yet commented on Khan’s allegations, but it is likely that the matter will be taken up by the military establishment. The ISI, in particular, is known to be extremely sensitive to criticism and is likely to respond strongly to Khan’s accusations.

The current situation in Pakistan is complex and fraught with challenges. The country is facing economic difficulties, political instability, and security threats from both internal and external sources. Khan’s accusations against Naseer have added another layer of complexity to an already difficult situation, and it remains to be seen how the matter will be resolved.
