In a display of dissent, Pakistan’s ruling coalition organized a protest outside the Supreme Court, denouncing recent judicial rulings that they claimed favored former Prime Minister Imran Khan in multiple cases. The demonstrators, representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), breached the Red Zone and established a stage in front of the Supreme Court to voice their grievances.

Despite the imposition of Section 144, which restricted public gatherings, the protesters entered the red zone and announced their intention to conduct a sit-in between 1 pm and 2 pm outside the Supreme Court. The move was organized under the umbrella of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition of opposition parties.

The ruling coalition’s demonstration reflects their dissatisfaction with recent judicial decisions that they perceive as granting undue leniency to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The protesters claim that these rulings provided blanket relief to Khan in various legal cases. By staging the protest outside the Supreme Court, they aimed to draw attention to what they consider the judiciary’s bias and demand transparency and accountability.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by Nawaz Sharif, has been a vocal critic of Imran Khan’s government, particularly concerning allegations of electoral misconduct and corruption. The party has accused the judiciary of favoring Khan’s ruling party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and claims that justice is being compromised.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), led by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, have also expressed their discontent with the judicial decisions. Both parties have been part of the opposition movement against Imran Khan’s government and have called for greater accountability and transparency in the country’s institutions.

The breach of the Red Zone by the protesters, despite the implementation of Section 144, raises concerns about security and law enforcement in the federal capital. The decision to hold the protest at the Supreme Court, the highest judicial institution in the country, underscores the significance of the grievances expressed by the ruling coalition.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a coalition of opposition parties, has been actively mobilizing against Imran Khan’s government since its formation. The PDM seeks to challenge the ruling party’s legitimacy and has organized numerous protests and rallies across the country. By staging this particular demonstration outside the Supreme Court, the PDM aims to highlight its concerns about the judiciary’s impartiality and independence.

As the demonstration unfolds, the ruling coalition expects its protest to generate public support and media attention. By publicly expressing their grievances and challenging the judiciary’s decisions, they aim to pressure the courts to review and reconsider the rulings in question. The ruling coalition hopes to use this demonstration as a platform to raise awareness about their concerns and to garner support from the wider public.

The Supreme Court, as the apex judicial body, plays a crucial role in upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice in Pakistan. The protests organized by the ruling coalition underscore the importance of an independent and impartial judiciary. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how the Supreme Court and the government will respond to these protests and address the concerns raised by the demonstrators.
