Churachandpur Drug Bust: Four Myanmar Nationals Arrested with Suspected Heroin in Manipur

Security forces in Churachandpur district have arrested four Myanmar nationals for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of police and Assam Rifles intercepted suspects in the Behiang area and seized 66 soap cases of suspected heroin. Authorities conducted two separate operations, leading to multiple arrests and recoveries.

First Operation in Bualkot Village:

Security forces launched the first operation based on specific intelligence inputs. They intercepted a motorcycle in the Behiang Police Station area and apprehended two suspects from Bualkot village.

During the search, the team recovered 22 soap cases suspected to contain heroin. As a result, authorities immediately detained the individuals and secured the seized materials for further examination.


Second Operation in Behiang Village:

In a follow-up operation, security personnel carried out another raid in Behiang village. This time, they arrested two more individuals and seized an additional 44 soap cases of suspected heroin.

Consequently, the total number of recovered cases reached 66. However, officials have not yet determined the exact quantity and market value of the narcotics due to logistical challenges in the remote area.


Arrested Individuals and Legal Action:

Police identified the accused as Thangsawmung (56), Kamkhenmung (56), Jhonmung (31), and HaukhuI (55). All of them reportedly belong to Chikha village in Myanmar.

Authorities have registered cases at Behiang Police Station under the Foreigners Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Furthermore, investigators have begun detailed inquiries to trace the supply network and possible links.

Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh welcomed the successful operation. He praised the coordinated efforts of local police and the Assam Rifles.

Moreover, he highlighted ongoing concerns about cross-border drug trafficking and illegal infiltration. He also emphasized the need for stronger enforcement and continuous vigilance in border regions.
