Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on August 24 said the state government has formally invited the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) for talks on its five-point agenda. The government is awaiting a response from the student organisation, which is expected by Monday evening or Tuesday. Sangma said the government is ready to discuss all five demands and clarify its position on issues requiring further explanation. He added that action has already begun on most of the matters raised by the KSU.
The Chief Minister said a lack of communication between the government and the student body had contributed to misunderstandings. He stressed that the administration remains willing to meet the KSU and discuss each of its demands.

Government’s Position on Arrested KSU Leaders
Sangma also addressed the arrest of KSU leaders and the use of the Meghalaya Maintenance of Public Order Act (MMPO) and Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act (MPDA).
He said the government would deal with the cases according to the law. The Chief Minister maintained that legal procedures cannot be changed or bypassed because of pressure from any organisation or individual.
According to Sangma, the cases will proceed through due process.

The Chief Minister said security personnel had been deployed along the route of the motorcycle rally. However, the administration faced difficulties after incidents began occurring at multiple locations.
