However, inadequate connectivity and infrastructure continue to limit tourism growth in several areas.

Therefore, Tamang urged stakeholders to improve transportation networks, strengthen tourism facilities and promote regional destinations.

Moreover, he highlighted the importance of preserving indigenous traditions while expanding tourism activities.

Better Connectivity Essential for Northeast Tourism Growth

Tamang identified improved road connectivity and tourism infrastructure as major priorities for attracting domestic and international visitors.

According to him, better transportation facilities could make remote destinations more accessible and encourage tourists to explore lesser-known locations.

Additionally, stronger connectivity could support local businesses, hospitality services and tourism-related employment.

He also encouraged greater cooperation among Northeastern states to promote the region as a unified tourism destination.

Sikkim Promotes Homestays and Lesser-Known Destinations

Highlighting his government’s tourism initiatives, Tamang said Sikkim has prioritised homestay development and the promotion of emerging destinations.

The state has also focused on strengthening tourism infrastructure to attract visitors beyond established tourist centres.

Furthermore, homestay tourism allows local families to participate directly in the hospitality sector.

As a result, tourism development can create additional income opportunities while showcasing local food, traditions and cultural experiences.

Tamang emphasised that community participation remains essential for sustainable tourism growth.

Responsible Tourism Can Create Jobs for Northeast Youth

The Sikkim Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of responsible tourism in generating employment and livelihood opportunities.

He said tourism development should benefit local communities, particularly young people seeking economic opportunities.

Moreover, sustainable tourism practices can help protect natural resources and preserve traditional cultural identities.

Therefore, Tamang encouraged tourism stakeholders to balance economic growth with environmental protection and community welfare.

Tamang Credits PM Modi’s Ashta Lakshmi Vision

During his address, Tamang credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for increasing attention towards connectivity, tourism and inclusive development in Northeast India.

He highlighted the Ashta Lakshmi vision, which recognises the eight Northeastern states as important contributors to India’s development.

Furthermore, Tamang said coordinated efforts could help position Northeast India as a leading global tourism destination.

He also stressed that regional cooperation would play a crucial role in achieving long-term tourism growth.

Why Tawang Is Important for Northeast Tourism

Tawang, located in Arunachal Pradesh, is among Northeast India’s prominent tourism destinations.

The region attracts visitors through its Himalayan landscapes, Buddhist monasteries and distinctive cultural heritage.

The event provides an opportunity to promote regional destinations and encourage tourism-related investment and cooperation.
