Arunachal heavy rain is expected from Wednesday, August 19, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across several parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The warning covers districts spread across the western, central and eastern parts of the state.

The latest forecast comes as monsoon activity remains strong across the Northeast. The IMD has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh from August 18 to 24, along with isolated heavy rainfall during the same period.

Arunachal heavy rain alert begins August 19

The IMD’s Met Centre in Itanagar has issued a heavy-rain warning for Arunachal Pradesh on August 19. The warning also includes the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning.

Several districts are likely to experience heavy showers. These include Tawang, West Kameng, East Kameng, Papum Pare, Lower Subansiri and Upper Subansiri. East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, Lohit, Anjaw, Namsai, Changlang, Tirap and Longding are also among the areas under watch.

However, the forecast is not limited to these districts. The weather agency has indicated that other parts of the state may also receive heavy rain as the unsettled conditions continue.

Rain and thunderstorms may continue

The current warning points to a prolonged spell of wet weather rather than a single-day event. The IMD has listed heavy rain across Arunachal Pradesh from August 18 through August 24. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely from August 18 to August 22.

Moreover, the latest national weather bulletin said rainfall is likely to remain fairly widespread to widespread across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, as well as other northeastern states, through August 24. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Arunachal Pradesh during this period.

The forecast suggests that weather conditions could remain unsettled for several days. Therefore, residents and travellers may need to monitor updated local forecasts, particularly in areas vulnerable to intense rain.

Hilly areas face weather-related risks

Arunachal Pradesh’s mountainous terrain can make heavy rainfall more disruptive. The IMD has noted that heavy rain can reduce visibility and affect road connectivity, especially in vulnerable and hilly locations.

As a result, commuters travelling through mountain roads may face difficult conditions during periods of intense rainfall. Waterlogging can also affect movement in some locations. Residents should remain alert to local warnings and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.

The weather agency has also advised people to stay updated as conditions develop. During thunderstorms, people should take shelter in safe buildings and avoid exposed locations.

Recent rain adds to monsoon activity

The forecast follows significant rainfall already recorded in parts of Arunachal Pradesh. According to the IMD’s August 18 bulletin, heavy rainfall of 7 to 11 cm was recorded in the state during the previous 24 hours ending at 8:30 am. Longding recorded 9 cm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, several other northeastern areas also reported substantial rainfall. Assam and Meghalaya recorded very heavy rainfall during the same period, showing the broader strength of monsoon activity across the region.

The combination of ongoing rainfall and the fresh warning makes continued monitoring important. Local authorities and residents in vulnerable areas will need to remain prepared if rainfall becomes more intense.

Arunachal heavy rain calls for caution

The IMD’s latest forecast indicates that Arunachal heavy rain will remain a concern from August 19 and could continue through the following days. Heavy showers, thunderstorms and lightning may affect several districts across the state.

Overall, the forecast highlights an active monsoon phase over Arunachal Pradesh. Residents should follow official weather updates, exercise caution on roads and take appropriate safety measures during thunderstorms. Conditions can change quickly in hilly areas, making timely local alerts especially important.
