Saraighat Rana Smritisaudh Inaugurated; Brahmaputra Riverfront Expansion Begins

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday inaugurated the Saraighat Rana Smritisaudh, a memorial that honours the historic Battle of Saraighat. He also laid the foundation stone for the expansion of the Brahmaputra Riverfront.

The memorial reflects the traditional architectural style of the Ahom dynasty. The design highlights Assam’s historical heritage and cultural identity.

The structure displays the engraved names of 132 warriors who took part in the Battle of Saraighat. The memorial pays tribute to their bravery and role in the historic conflict.

Officials said the government built the memorial to preserve important records of the battle. The facility will also help visitors understand the significance of the event.

During the event, the Chief Minister also launched Phase III of the Brahmaputra Riverfront development project. The new phase will expand public spaces along the riverbank.

Officials said the project will add recreational facilities and improve existing infrastructure. The expansion aims to make the riverfront more accessible for residents and visitors.

The development plan includes more open spaces for walking and relaxation. Authorities also plan to create areas for social and community activities.

Boost to Tourism and Urban Spaces

The expanded riverfront will offer better recreational opportunities. City residents will gain a larger and more attractive public space.

Officials expect the riverfront to become a popular destination for locals and tourists. The project will also improve the city’s urban landscape.
