Focus on Eco-Friendly Tourism Development

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen K. T. Parnaik, has emphasised the importance of promoting sustainable tourism in the state to generate employment opportunities while protecting its fragile ecological balance. He highlighted that tourism, if developed responsibly, can significantly contribute to the local economy without harming the environment.

However, he stressed that tourism development must focus on sustainability so that natural resources remain protected for future generations.

Balancing Development and Environmental Protection

According to Lt Gen K. T. Parnaik, sustainable tourism can help strike a balance between economic growth and environmental conservation. Instead of mass tourism that may damage ecosystems, the state should encourage eco-tourism initiatives that respect nature and local traditions.

Such initiatives may include community-based tourism, responsible trekking, wildlife conservation tours, and homestay programmes managed by local residents. As a result, tourism development would not only protect the environment but also directly benefit rural communities.

Tourism as a Source of Employment

The Governor also highlighted that tourism can become a powerful engine for job creation in remote areas. When tourists visit the state, they generate demand for services such as accommodation, transport, food, guiding, and handicrafts.

Consequently, local youth can find employment opportunities within their own communities rather than migrating to cities in search of work. Promoting tourism-related entrepreneurship can also empower local residents and strengthen the regional economy.

Protecting Arunachal’s Natural Heritage

Arunachal Pradesh is known for its rich biodiversity, dense forests, and unique wildlife habitats. Therefore, authorities must ensure that tourism development does not harm these natural assets. The Governor urged stakeholders, including government agencies, tourism operators, and local communities, to work together to preserve the state’s ecological wealth.

In addition, he encouraged responsible tourism practices such as waste management, conservation awareness, and limited infrastructure development in ecologically sensitive zones.

Vision for Sustainable Growth

In conclusion, the call for sustainable tourism reflects a broader vision of development that prioritises both economic growth and environmental protection. By promoting eco-friendly tourism practices, Arunachal Pradesh can create new employment opportunities while safeguarding its unique landscapes and biodiversity.

The Governor’s message highlights the importance of ensuring that tourism growth benefits local communities while preserving the natural beauty that makes the state a unique destination.
