Zubair Anam has come under fresh political scrutiny after his reported omission from a Youth Conclave panel, amid speculation about differences with Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi. The development has drawn attention within the Assam Congress at a time when the party is dealing with reports of internal disagreements.
The omission, by itself, does not establish a political rift. However, it has added to questions surrounding the relationship between the Assam Youth Congress president and the state Congress leadership. Neither side has publicly confirmed that the panel decision was linked to any dispute.
Zubair Anam omission draws attention
The reported absence of Zubair Anam from the panel has become notable because of his position as Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president. The APCC officially lists him as the head of the party’s youth wing.
The Youth Conclave was designed as a platform for discussions involving young people and political voices. Therefore, the absence of a senior youth organisation leader has prompted questions about the selection process and the political context surrounding the event.

The meeting was held at Rajiv Bhavan on May 21 and was attended by newly elected MLAs, former legislators, MPs and senior Congress leaders, according to reports. The MLAs alleged that Mazumder arrived about 30 minutes after the meeting began and objected to his conduct during the proceedings.
However, those allegations do not amount to a confirmed finding of wrongdoing. They also do not, on their own, prove a sustained personal or political feud between the two leaders.
Congress factional tensions remain in focus
The episode has emerged amid wider reports of factional tensions within the Assam Congress. Earlier, allegations were also raised over disruptions at a party review meeting in Hailakandi, with a Congress leader claiming that supporters of Zubair Anam were involved.
The allegations were contested by the absence of an immediate response from Anam or his supporters, while the APCC had not issued an official statement on the matter at the time of the report.
Meanwhile, the BJP has sought to portray the developments as evidence of organisational instability within the Congress. BJP spokesperson Manas Sarania alleged that internal disputes had weakened the party and cited the controversy involving Anam as an example.
Youth Congress role adds significance
The position held by Zubair Anam makes the panel omission politically relevant. The Assam Pradesh Youth Congress is the party’s youth organisation, giving its president an important role in engaging younger voters and workers.
Anam has also remained active in Youth Congress programmes. In January, he participated in a statewide padayatra focused on land rights, constitutional values and protection of indigenous identity.
Consequently, questions about his visibility at major youth-oriented events are likely to attract attention within the organisation. Still, participation in any particular panel can depend on several factors, including the event’s format, invitees and organisers.

The significance of Zubair Anam being left out of the panel will depend on what happens next. If there are further changes in his organisational role or public engagements with the state Congress leadership, the episode could gain greater political weight.
