Officials said the project will ease congestion on one of the busiest corridors in Guwahati. Thousands of commuters travel daily between the eastern and central parts of the city, and the new flyover will help reduce travel time significantly.

Easing Traffic Congestion in the City

Rapid urban growth in Guwahati has increased traffic pressure on major roads. Over the years, vehicle numbers have grown steadily, creating frequent congestion during peak hours. The new flyover addresses this challenge by allowing vehicles to move smoothly without multiple traffic stops.

Authorities expect the infrastructure project to streamline traffic along the Dighalipukhuri–Noonmati route, which connects several key residential, educational, and commercial areas. The flyover will also reduce bottlenecks at busy intersections along the corridor.

City planners believe the project will improve overall road safety while making daily travel more convenient for residents.

Strengthening Urban Infrastructure

The Assam government has prioritised infrastructure development to support the region’s economic and urban growth. Projects such as flyovers, improved highways, and better public infrastructure aim to modernise transportation networks and reduce pressure on existing roads.

The Dighalipukhuri–Noonmati flyover reflects this broader development strategy. By improving connectivity within Guwahati, the project will help facilitate trade, business activities, and tourism in the region.

Infrastructure experts say such projects are essential for cities experiencing rapid population growth and increased mobility demands.

Supporting Future Development

The opening of Assam’s longest flyover highlights the state’s continued focus on improving urban mobility and modernising city infrastructure. Officials believe the new flyover will not only ease traffic but also encourage further development in surrounding areas.

As Guwahati continues to expand as a major gateway to Northeast India, improved road connectivity will play an important role in supporting economic opportunities and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
